A winner, when saddled by Narendra Lagad, over the same trip and class, is now running at minus 3 kgs.To be ridden by Narendra Lagad’s stable jockey, is now being saddled by Nirad Karanjawalla. Will this trainer try to win with his new charge in his first attempt?

Jockey Dashrath Singh (REINSTATE) reported that soon after the start his mount threw its head up due to which he lost his left stirrup and lost control over his mount and subsequently his mount drifted outwards and took no part in the race. The Jockey further stated that while going to the Starting Gates also his mount was trying to go towards the exit.
Race No. PUN 241 Trainer Narendra Lagad was questioned regarding the comparative performance of REINSTATE which the filly won as compared to her earlier run in Race No 202 over an identical distance. The Trainer stated that he had given similar instructions in both the races, i.e. either to go to the front or sit back and not to cut pace with another horse, which App.P.Trevor could not follow and had cut pace with another horse and the filly had nothing left in her near 500 metres and fizzled out. He said that the common horse SADDLERS RULE may have performed poorly today. The earlier race was viewed. The explanation was noted since the horse was at longer odds and SADDLERS RULE had met with interference in this race.

7 Benedictus 3rd till 1200, 2nd till 250, led till 100, went back. Trainer H Ali Khan and Jockey Narain Singh were questioned regarding the running and riding of BENEDICTUS. The trainer confirming the statements of the Jockey added that this was the first time that his charge was going over a distance of 1600 mts and also in his opinion, his charge is well suited for shorter distances. However while noting the explanations of the Trainer and Jockey concerned, the trainer was severely reprimanded for unsatisfactory running of his charge.

When TEQUILA was disqualified after winning Race No. 37 on 1st Aug 2010.
At the behest of the Stipendiary Stewards, a Stewards Enquiry was held in this race. The reason being, near 1000 metres Jockey Neeraj Rawal (TAKESTWOTOTANGO) whose saddle had slipped, shifted out. Soon thereafter, Jockey Ladjadj Stephane (TEQUILA, placed first), was observed to have pushed Jockey Neeraj Rawal forcefully with his right hand. After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to disqualify TEQUILA (placed first) for foul riding and to revise the order of placing of the race as under :-

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 14th August, 2010 interviewed Jockey Ladjadj Stephane, the rider of TEQUILA along with his Spokesman, Mr.Narendra Lagad, for foul riding in the above race. The Stewards considered the submissions made by Jockey Ladjadj Stephane/his Spokesman as also his witness Jockey Neeraj Rawal. They also considered an apology letter dated 1st August, 2010 from Jockey Ladjadj Stephane for his behavior in the Stewards Room on 1st August, 2010. Having viewed the video recording of Race No.37 (all angles) in slow as well as in normal motion, as also the blow up of the incident and having deliberated on the matter, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Ladjadj Stephane in the subject case and held him guilty of foul riding on his mount TEQUILA. However, keeping in mind the plea made by him/his Spokesman, the Stewards took a lenient view in the matter and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 29th August, 2010 till the end of Pune Meeting 2010 (both days inclusive) (Not permitted to ride work).

Celestial Spectacle.
Grab a blanket and settle down in a good spot outdoors Thursday evening. A three-day meteor shower is going to start around 10 pm, east coast time - and it's going to be a good one. Here's how NASA's Tony Phillips describes the annual "Perseid" meteor shower:
Every 133 years the huge comet swings through the inner solar system and leaves behind a trail of dust and gravel. When Earth passes through the debris, specks of comet-stuff hit the atmosphere at 140,000 mph and disintegrate in flashes of light. These meteors are called Perseids because they fly out of the constellation Perseus.
The viewing will be clearer this year because lunar glare isn't expected to be visible during the midnight-to-dawn period. Last week, astronomers got a peek of coming attractions when an asteroid turned into a fireball in the skies visible in the southeastern United States. Friday night stargazing may be the best time to take it all in as the crescent moon is expected to set before the finish of twilight, offering up a very dark sky to behold.
D.P. Duari, Director, Research and Academics at the Birla Planetarium says
The Perseid meteor shower is expected on Thursday night, when the earth passes through the debris of comet Swift Tuttle, with predictions of a shooting star every second at the peak of the celestial spectacle.
It is predicted that the earth will pass through the comet debris between August 11 and 13. As hundreds and thousands of small rocky fragments enter the Earth's atmosphere, they will burn up due to friction displaying brilliant and dazzling streaks of light.
“Those who want to witness the phenomenon will be able to observe the rising of the Perseus constellation in the north eastern horizon at around 10.30 p.m. on the night of August 12. If monsoon clouds do not play spoilsport, slow moving meteors with their brilliant colours streaking past the sky will be observed at around 11.00 p.m. onwards. As the night progresses the meteor speeds will be much faster,” he added. The number is expected to rise and if the forecast timings are accurate, may peak around the early hours of August 13, numbering between 60 and a 100 per hour. By this time the meteors will be much faster and of shorter duration, Dr. Duari predicted.
The absence of the moon will be a bonus for people waiting to observe this beautiful phenomenon. It came close to the sun last in 1992, and is currently at the outer periphery of our planetary system.
It is perfectly safe to observe the shower with the naked eye, Dr. Duari said.

Last week, astronomers got a peek of coming attractions when an asteroid turned into a fireball in the skies visible in the southeastern United States. Friday night stargazing may be the best time to take it all in as the crescent moon is expected to set before the finish of twilight, offering up a very dark sky to behold.
D.P. Duari, Director, Research and Academics at the Birla Planetarium says
The Perseid meteor shower is expected on Thursday night, when the earth passes through the debris of comet Swift Tuttle, with predictions of a shooting star every second at the peak of the celestial spectacle.
It is predicted that the earth will pass through the comet debris between August 11 and 13. As hundreds and thousands of small rocky fragments enter the Earth's atmosphere, they will burn up due to friction displaying brilliant and dazzling streaks of light.
“Those who want to witness the phenomenon will be able to observe the rising of the Perseus constellation in the north eastern horizon at around 10.30 p.m. on the night of August 12. If monsoon clouds do not play spoilsport, slow moving meteors with their brilliant colours streaking past the sky will be observed at around 11.00 p.m. onwards. As the night progresses the meteor speeds will be much faster,” he added. The number is expected to rise and if the forecast timings are accurate, may peak around the early hours of August 13, numbering between 60 and a 100 per hour. By this time the meteors will be much faster and of shorter duration, Dr. Duari predicted.
The absence of the moon will be a bonus for people waiting to observe this beautiful phenomenon. It came close to the sun last in 1992, and is currently at the outer periphery of our planetary system.
It is perfectly safe to observe the shower with the naked eye, Dr. Duari said.
Grab some blankets, lie down, and gaze into the northeast skies to enjoy the show.
